Junior Squash Oath
I Promise… to respect the sport of Squash whose rules and regulations have been codified for over 200 years and are based upon polite behavior and fair play.
I Promise…to respect the efforts of my teachers, coaches, teammates, and parents and the time they dedicate to my sport.
I Promise…to respect the time I am afforded on the Squash Court.
I promise…to respect my body. I will avoid injury. I will play with the proper eyewear at all times. I will stretch and properly warm-up before entering the court. I will prepare myself for the increased physical challenges of the game as I improve. And I will avoid unhealthy food and drink.
I Promise… to respect my equipment. I will never abuse my racquet or eyewear or any court on which I play.
I Promise… to respect my opponent. I will be prepared, ready to play and to give my very best no matter the challenge. I will thank my opponent because they gave me the opportunity to play a game I love. I will congratulate them if they win because, like me, they are dedicated and gave their best.
I Promise…to respect the Tournament Directors. I will chec k my times and draws as specified. I will obey all club rules willingly. I will behave as a guest and leave each venue the way I found it. I will thank the Tournament Director for taking the time to host a tournament.
I Promise…to respect the referee. I will always ask for a Let by saying ”Let Please”. I will call my own errors. I will not argue with the referee but politely make my point or ask my opponent what they saw. I will accept graciously the outcome of the call, as I know that same responsibility will be mine soon. I will accept that mistakes happen and I will remind myself that they will occasionally fall in my favor from time to time. I will listen for the score as it is called and correct it immediately if I believe there might be an error. And I will not condone my family and friends’ interference with a referee.
I Promise…to remember the time, travel and expense that my parents have invested in my sports and to graciously accept the occasional “no”.
I Promise… to improve. I will listen to my coaches and practice. I will study and learn from my failures as well as my successes. I will ask for help when I need it. I will become the best player I know how to be.
I Will…keep Squash in perspective. I will not forget that I am a member of a family and have responsibilities at home. I will remember that I am a student and that my best efforts are deservedly assigned to school. I will do my best to complete every task assigned to me to the best of my abilities…so I can get back on the court
